Non-Canadians and York's Hiring Process

20 Nov 03 - Members of Hiring Committees should be aware of changes in the Federal Government's regulations concerning non-Canadians and the hiring process.

It should be emphasized that there is nothing in the HRDC Guidelines or YUFA's current (2003-06) Collective Agreement that requires hiring units to advertise in the United States or internationally, or that requires units to consider hiring non-Canadians.

The Vice-President Academic's website provides valuable, up-to-date information concerning the procedures for dealing with non-Canadian applicants to academic positions at York: click here

(Members of Hiring Committees should note that the 'collective agreement' referred to at the V-P Academic's url is the old, 2001-03 Collective Agreement, which has been superseded in this regard by the new, 2003-06 Collective Agreement: in particular see Article 26, pp. 48-49 of the current, 2003-06 Collective Agreement.)

Note also that more information on this subject is available at the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada website - see the Foreign Worker Academic Handbook.
