Weekend Exams and Workload

17 Mar 04 - YUFA needs your help! In order to accurately assess the impact of weekend exams on workload, we ask that faculty members arrange all deferred exams only through official channels.

YUFA and the Employer continue to discuss the issue of the weekend examination schedule, specifically whether there are an increased number of deferrals, with a consequent impact on faculty members' workload. Part of the resolution of the original grievance (click here for the minutes of settlement) was the Employer's agreement to provide statistics on the number of requests for deferrals for the past three examination periods. YUFA has attempted to analyze this data but it appears that many faculty members have been making informal arrangements with their students regarding deferrals and make-up exams and thus the statistics are likely not an accurate picture of the situation.

YUFA has requested, and the employer has agreed to provide, statistics with regard to the number of deferrals for the next two examination periods – April and December 2004. In order to ensure accuracy of this data, we need to have comprehensive data. Therefore, it is imperative that faculty members always arrange deferred exams through official channels – i.e., by having students complete a Deferred Standing Agreement Form (PDF). If this form is not used, the deferral is not recorded by the Registrar’s office.
