Policy for YUFA Executive’s Communications with Members via YUFA-M and the YUFA Website 27 Mar 06 - Through hard-copy mailings, YUFA Executive communicates information to YUFA members (and the Employer, but only on a privileged basis). This information concerns developments that have a direct bearing on, or are mandated by, YUFA’s Collective Agreement and By-laws. Through YUFA-M, YUFA Executive communicates unprivileged information with YUFA members (and the Employer) concerning developments that have a direct bearing on, or are mandated by, YUFA’s Collective Agreement and By-laws. To avoid unnecessarily filling members' inboxes (and thereby increasing their workload and/or risking that members will ignore important YUFA communications), YUFA Executive uses YUFA-M only to disseminate YUFA-related information that is important to its membership in general. YUFA Executive uses the YUFA Website to post official, unprivileged YUFA documents and information of direct concern to YUFA as an organization. By contrast, YUFA does not use hard-copy mailings, YUFA-M, or the YUFA Website to publicize events or information that are more properly supported directly by the Employer (e.g., concerning teaching / professional responsibilities, non-YUFA service, or research / creative activity that is a regular part of members' workload). Other organizations wishing to publicize events and issues that might be of interest to YUFA’s members should consider other, non-YUFA venues. For example, although their subscribership and/or readership consists largely of YUFA members, such venues as YUFA-W, YUForum, Critical Times, york-governance, and Senate-L are not official organs of YUFA. Similarly, one-way-only distribution lists for, e.g., the Centre for the Support of Teaching, as well as the Employer’s distribution lists for notices within and among Faculties, and caut-gen are not official YUFA venues. Further, whereas YUFA supports through donations certain initiatives of other organizations, YUFA does not endorse such organizations officially and does not publicize their initiatives in its own official venues. |
