Upcoming Health & Safety Training Sessions for YUFA (and other) Supervisors

2004 - Over the years, YUFA has discussed with the Employer and obtained legal opinions regarding whether faculty members are supervisors for health and safety purposes. It seems clear that under the provisions of the Ontario Health and Safety Act, YUFA members could be deemed to be supervisors in certain circumstances, particularly if they are directing work in a lab, or if they are directing the activities of Research Assistants or Teaching Assistants. Therefore, it would be in the best interest of faculty members to become informed regarding their responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Department of Occupational Health and Safety provides training on the roles and responsibilities of supervisors.

Upcoming training sessions offered by the Department of Occupational Health and Safety:

  • "The Occupational Health & Safety Act For Supervisors" - Tuesday, Nov 27 @ 1:15-3:30 pm
As seating is limited, please let contact Mike Papakyriakou at extension 33477 or mikepapa@yorku.ca to reserve a spot. The location will be announced a few days before the workshop.
