Thunder Bay & District Labour Council appalled by York Administration's Disregard for Freedom of Expression

1 Jun 05

Lorna Marsden

President, York University
5949 Ross Building, 4700 Keele Street
Toronto, Ontario, M3J 1P3

Dear Dr. Marsden:

The Thunder Bay & District Labour Council, representing more than 9,000 working people, was appalled to learn of the disregard York University appears to have when it comes to freedom of expression.

We understand that an extreme over-reaction on the part of the University took place earlier this year following a demonstration by students against the policies U.S. President Bush of globalization and the University’s corporation connection with these policies.

We would hope that universities continue in their tradition of allowing students the opportunity to explore ideas and to express themselves.

Yours sincerely,

Evelina Pan
President
