27 Mar 06 (revised 23 Jun 06) - Executive Director Jim Turk has confirmed that the CAUT Investigatory Committee will finalize its report in September.
The Committee, consisting of Professors Rebecca Coulter (UWO) and Ken Field (Trent), is charged with looking into allegations of threats to academic freedom and freedom of speech as well as allegations of inappropriate governance practices at York University.
In the meantime, a draft of the report will be reviewed by Turk and CAUT's defamation lawyer. Thereupon, CAUT will send letters to anyone potentially materially affected by the report, who will be given a month to reply.
Finally, the report will be reviewed by CAUT's Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee and, upon AF&T approval, CAUT will actively explore resolution of the matter with the parties concerned.
If the matter cannot be satisfactorily resolved, CAUT, on the advice of the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee, will publish the final text of the report.
