17 Feb 05 Concerned YUFA members may want to consult the following documents regarding the Rae Commission's Discussion Paper and Report.

The Rae Report

·         The Rae Report: The Final Report and Recommendations submitted to the Provincial Government, February, 2005.

·         OCUFA's Response to Rae Report: The Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations emphasizes that the $1.3 billion recommended by Bob Rae would bring Ontario’s per-student funding  up to the national average. OCUFA also applauds Rae’s recommendations that funding be stable from year to year, that more faculty be hired, and that the number of graduate students be doubled.

·         CUPE's Response to Rae Report (pdf)
emphasizes the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ misgivings about citing market-based precedents in Alberta and Texas; measured quality assurance which can lead to privatization, contracting-out and increased workload; student and family savings as substitutes for government funding; income-contingent loans as a form of regressive taxation; the lack of recognition that graduate students are workers; the prospect of academic workers not having protection from tuition increases.

·         Canadian Federation of Students' Response to Rae Report stresses the fear that there will be more debt for students and families.
