Professors'
Union Elects New Executive
(Ottawa - June 20, 2002) Delegates to the first convention of the National Union of the Canadian Association of University Teachers have chosen an executive to lead the new union. Elected to the NUCAUT executive were: Maureen Shaw, president (College-Institute Educators' Association of British Columbia); Brian Brown, vice-president (University of Windsor Faculty Association); Don MacGillivray, treasurer (University College of Cape Breton Faculty Association of University Teachers). NUCAUT president Maureen Shaw welcomed the mandate she received from NUCAUT delegates. "Our focus over the next year," Shaw said, "will be recruiting new members, sharing bargaining goals and strategies, and protecting public post-secondary education." Shaw was also elected to the Executive Council of the Canadian Labour Congress at its Convention last week. Founded this year, NUCAUT represents more than 10,000 academic staff at universities and colleges in eight provinces. All members of NUCAUT are also members of the Canadian Association of University Teachers. |
