Annual Labour Day Parade

30 Aug 11 - The Annual Labour Day Parade is on Monday 5 September starting at 9:30 am at Queen and University Streets. Any members interested in going together from YUFA are invited to contact the YUFA office at 416 736 5236 or yufa@yorku.ca so we can put you in touch with one another.

The following message if from the Toronto & York Region Labour Council:

LABOUR DAY TO HONOUR JACK LAYTON

This year’s Labour Day parade will pay tribute to the leadership of Jack Layton over decades of struggle for social justice, environmental sustainability, workers rights and equity. Labour Council has printed 10,000 buttons with his famous slogan “Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done”. They will be distributed among the marchers and worn proudly on that day, and for years to come.

The theme of the 2011 parade is “Labour Defends All Public Services”. That is the number one fight at the City of Toronto this year, and will be a key issue in the provincial election as well. The parade steps off at 9:30 am from Queen + University.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LABOUR DAY

We are looking for three dozen volunteers on Labour Day to help sign up union activists for the Labour Council newsletter mailing list. With major battles looming on the horizon, the labour movement in Toronto needs to reach many more union members with news about campaigns, rallies and solidarity actions. If you can help on Labour Day, contact Steve Shallhorn at or phoning 416 537-6532 x 2203.
