CUPE 3903 Research Assistant Drive
18 Sep 06 - YUFA Executive voted to endorse the drive by CUPE 3903 to
organize Research Assistants at York University. It is our understanding
that currently RAs at Ryerson and McMaster as unionized.
Unionization would, among other positive effects, potentially provide
benefits at the same level as those enjoyed by Teaching Assistants, and
thereby ameliorate the current situation in which students who hold a
Research Assistant position but not a Teaching Assistantship do the same
work but without the same benefits.
We will be sending YUFA members a letter from CUPE providing the rationale for the unionization drive.
