Report on the Special General Membership Meeting of 16 June 2006
20 Jun 06 – The purpose of the meeting was to reconsider the merits of the 7 June 2006 GMM motion to seek an injunction "against the forcible retirement of the July 1, 2006 retirement cohort until the conclusion of the current round of negotiations" in light of subsequent legal advice regarding the possible costs and likelihood of failure of the injunction. YUFA legal counsel, Jim MacDonald and Ethan Poskanzer, were present at the meeting.
The meeting began at approximately 1:20pm after quorum had been established. After a lengthy and lively discussion, the motion to seek the injunction was rescinded. YUFA Executive agreed to hold a meeting with the 2006 retiree cohort as well as with the Stewards’ Council to discuss the situation further. That meeting will be held on Friday, 23 June 2006 in TEL, Room 0007.
