SGM Recommends Reconsideration of VP External Vacancy and Endorses Plan to End Mandatory Retirement

21 Oct 05 - At its October 11, 2005 Special General Meeting, YUFA members recommended that YUFA’s Executive reconsider its vote of non-confidence in the Vice President External.

In this connection, President Hilliker assured members that after legal consultation YUFA’s Executive would determine whether to reconsider its vote of non-confidence, and, in the event, what such a reconsideration might involve. In the meantime, YUFA’s Executive has reconsidered its vote of non-confidence and has not changed its position concerning the outcome.

On the issue of mandatory retirement, YUFA members endorsed YUFA Executive's proposal to negotiate changes to the existing retirement provisions in the current (2003-06) Collective Agreement, and negotiate a subsequent, multi-year Collective Agreement for 2006+.

In this regard, President Hilliker reported that The Employer indicated that it is willing to consider the possibility of negotiating an immediate end to retirement and is prepared to discuss that with YUFA. This will initially be done via the Joint Subcommittee on Long Range Planning through the agency of the Joint Committee on the Administration of the Agreement (Article 7.05).
