Amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act:

6 Apr 10 - YUFA’s legal experts will discuss Bill 168’s recent amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which are intended to address issues of violence and harassment in the workplace.

Bill 168 comes into effect in June 2010 and, among other things, requires most employers to:

  • develop written policies with respect to both workplace violence and workplace harassment;

  • develop and maintain programs to implement the policies and to deal with incidents and complaints of workplace violence and harassment;

  • assess the risks of workplace violence; and

  • in certain circumstances, provide information to workers regarding a specific risk of violence in the workplace.

Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005:

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 requires organizations - including employers and trade unions - to comply with the requirements of a variety of “Accessibility Standards” in such areas as employment, delivery of goods and services, transportation, and communications.

These new standards, which are being phased in over time, will impose extensive obligations on public and private sector employers, beyond the existing accommodation requirements in the Ontario Human Rights Code. SGM’s human rights experts will explain what the new standards are and how they might impact on our workplace.

If you would like to find out more about the anti-workplace violence and harassment provisions of Bill 168, or need information regarding the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, this is the seminar for you.
