  • Read me first: What's my 'normal retirement date' ... and, if mandatory retirement is over, why does the Collective Agreement still refer to it? How much notice am I required to give of my planned retirement date? How do I get help in figuring out the details of my retirement? Will I be a member of the bargaining unit after I retire?

  • Options before you retire: When is the earliest I can retire? Can I ease into retirement before my 'normal retirement date'? When am I eligible for an early retirement payout? What's in the early retirement package? Is there a penalty if I fail to give the Employer 9 months' notice of my early retirement? What are my options if I have unused sabbatical credits when I'm nearing my 'normal retirement date'? What if I have unused graduate supervision credits as I near retirement?

Workload

  • How teaching is assigned: What is faculty 'teaching load' and how does it work? Who assigns my teaching load and how do I know if they're doing it equitably? How does graduate supervision figure in? How does research figure into teaching / librarian professional loads? Can I be assigned to teach a course outside my area of expertise? Can someone else in YUFA or CUPE 3903 be assigned to teach a course that I usually teach? Can I be forced to teach a course on the Internet or by correspondence? Can my class sizes be increased? Can my 'normal teaching load' be increased? What are my rights regarding exam scheduling? What can I do about extra work created by make-up exams? What about the additional work related to students who have disability-related needs for accommodation? Can a colleague use my course materials without my permission?
