The Freedom to Publish Research Findings
16 Oct 03 - The freedom to publish one’s research findings is a vital element of academic freedom, yet most universities allow funders the right to withhold or delay publication. CAUT is preparing a report on the extent and nature of delays that institutions allow.YUFA needs information on the policies in place at York regarding what publication delays are permissible. Many other universities have policies that say delays in publication “may not normally be longer than...” YUFA would like to know of any such language at our institution. Is there a maximum length of time a funder is permitted to delay publication under any circumstances? In the policies, is there an explicit prohibition of a funder’s right to block publication altogether? Nick Lary (nlary@yorku.ca), V-P External of YUFA, will be glad to receive information on policies at York, and will forward it to CAUT. |
