  • Tackling Bias in Teaching Evaluations: The issue of bias (based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability) in teaching evaluations, and the negative impact this may have on faculty members T&P files has been identified as a concern. The Equity committee is putting into place a two-pronged plan. One is to collect research articles on this subject which will be held at the YUFA office, and at the CST, which faculty members may photocopy and append to their files if they wish. The other is to compile a list of faculty members with expertise and/or experience of bias in the classroom who are willing to act as teaching assessors. They will be available to provide relevant assessments of teaching should a faculty candidate feel this has not been properly taken into account by T&P committees.
  • Exit Interviews: The Equity committee plans to explore the possibility of interviewing YUFA members who have left York to pursue other opportunities. We will be trying to ascertain whether equity issues played any role, or not, in their decision to leave York.
