Exec recommends ratification of tentative agreement
On
the 2nd of August, YUFA and the Board of Governors reached a tentative
settlement for a renewal collective agreement.
The
YUFA Executive Committee voted on the 8th of August to recommend to
members that they ratify the settlement.
"The
settlement is in line with settlements at other Ontario universities,”
said Penni Stewart, Acting Chairperson.
"We
made some breakthroughs over past negotiations. But clearly we’ve had to
give way to the Employer in some difficult areas.”
Details
of the settlement, along with a summary, have been sent to each YUFA
member by campus mail and email.
For
purposes of comparison, members may also wish to refer to the 1999-2001
Collective Agreement (which is available at www.yufa.org/docs/ca
if the purple book is not at hand).
“YUFA
had the benefit of a superlative bargaining team,” said Stewart. “Led
by Brenda Spotton Visano, their competence and expertise enabled the
Executive to move toward a fair settlement in a timely fashion. They
brought to the task a wealth of administrative experience, knowledge of
the contract and a healthy dose of realism.”
