Solidarity Support for the Anti-FTAA ActivistsSeveral YUFA members have asked the executive to support the solidarity efforts that are being organized in response to government and police action at the FTAA protests in Quebec City last weekend. Some of our students are still in jail. The following websites have information about what took place last weekend and situation of those who were arrested: YUFA is working with the York Mobilization for Global Justice, the group of students, faculty, and staff that organized the anti-FTAA initiative on campus. We are hoping to hold a fundraiser on campus to raise money for the legal defense. If you are interested in being part of this effort or have suggestions about other ways we might proceed on this issue, please get in touch with YUFA (yufa@yorku.ca). The Quebec Legal Collective, who is organizing the legal defense for people who were arrested, has suggested the following actions as the most effective form of support at this time. Contribute to the legal fund to assist with bail and legal costs: 1. Quebec Legal Defence 2. Phone/fax: Contact the government directly to
voice your outrage: Serge Ménard, Québec Minister of Public Security 3.Call the Orsainville Jail and tell them that you are watching events as they unfold and insist that the demands of those arrested be met immediately. Their demands are:
