Exec appoints Bargaining Team

At its meeting of the 2nd of May, the YUFA Executive appointed its Collective Bargaining Team for 2001.

The appointees are:  Mary-Louise Craven (Social Science / Arts), Ellie Perkins (Environmental Studies), Brent Roe (Libraries), Leslie Sanders (English / Atkinson), and Brenda Spotton Visano (Economics / Atkinson).

The appointees bring with them a wealth of experience in collective bargaining, in YUFA, and in University governance,"  said YUFA Chairperson Penni Stewart.

This is the first time the Executive has appointed a bargaining team.  The Constitution was amended in 2000 to include this provision in order to clarify the Executive's accountability and co-ordination of all aspects of the bargaining process.  Related amendments reformed the process of formulating negotiating proposals.

The Executive's first instruction to the Bargaining Team was to consult widely as it gets down to work.  Sources of experience and expertise include the Contract Review Committee and the past negotiating committee.

YUFA and the Board of Governors are currently working out dates and other details of this year's negotiations.  The first meetings should be held mid-May.

Watch for further information about the bargaining team and the process in upcoming communiqués.
