Grievance Settled – Atkinson Technical-Training Support for Internet Courses

23 Mar 04 - On December 5, 2003, YUFA filed a grievance regarding technical-training support for Internet courses in the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and professional Studies. At issue was the payment to TAs and Tutors for technical training they might require in order to undertake their duties. The Employer took the position that such payment would have to come out of the number of hours allocated to YUFA members for marker/grader and/or tutor support. YUFA argued that this training is extraordinary and not within the realm of the normal “training”/ orientation that one might have to provide to a new tutor or marker/grader.

YUFA is pleased to inform you that this grievance has been satisfactorily resolved. The Employer has undertaken to provide technical training sessions at least annually for teaching assistants and contract faculty hired to provide marker-grader and/or teaching assistant/tutor support for Atkinson Internet courses. Compensation for time spent in such training sessions will not impact of the number of hours allocated to YUFA members for teaching assistance support.
