a standing committee of the YUFA Executive. Its mandate is to facilitate
YUFA’s work with community groups to promote engaged citizenship through
access and equity programs, and to undertake community-based research.

The YUFA
Community Projects Committee (YUFA-CP) grew out of the Local Hearing on
Education, an open forum organized by YUFA in March 2002 to bring
interested faculty together with Jane-Finch community members and
educational leaders to hear from residents about their experiences with

Proposal to YUFA Executive to Establish a
Community Projects Committee

For the past three years an ad hoc group of YUFA members has
worked to develop and initiate a number of community-University
education projects, mainly in the Jane-Finch area. Given the successes
of these projects to date, it is our hope that a structure could now be
initiated, responsible to the Executive, which would provide some
overview, rationale and continuity to these kinds of activities.
