Transition Year Program (TYP) at York University

A York-YUFA Partnership

Call for Applications for TYP Program Director

Applications are invited from YUFA members for the internal position of Program Director of the newly-created Transition Year Program (TYP). The successful candidate will serve a two-year term as the Program Director, with full Course Release.

6 Oct 09 - The goal of the Transition Year Program is to make university education more equitable and accessible by providing opportunities for potential students from groups and communities that are currently under-represented in post-secondary education. In its initial pilot phase, the program is oriented towards the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, but as the program develops, the goal will be to develop paths into a range of Faculties across the University.

The Transition Year Program is a full-time two-term program for 20 students (to a maximum of 60 students by Year Three) who do not have the educational background to apply to undergraduate study at York University. With a first intake in Fall 2010, this program will reach a cohort of students who are not currently served by existing bridging or transition programs at York.

The Program Director will be responsible for academic oversight and administration of the program, including teaching, academic planning, resource allocations and budget, as well as the day-to-day operational and organizational activities, both within the University and the larger community. The Program Director will work with an administrative assistant and faculty to implement the TYP Program.

Knowledge of a range of pedagogies related to educating diverse groups of students, and experience in community outreach are essential to the position. As well as administering the TYP, the Program Director will be responsible for fostering links with partners both inside York, as well as with community organizations in the Greater Toronto Area and surroundings to support the program.

The Program Director position will commence on 1 May 2010, but it is hoped that the successful applicant will be able to participate in a number of program implementation meetings over the Winter 2010 term. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, as well as a statement of interest to: Office of Associate Vice-President for Academic Learning Initiatives, 906 YRT. If you have any questions about the position, please contact Norma Sue Fisher-Stitt, Associate Vice-President, Academic Learning Initiatives, ext. 23200 or Brenda Hart, Executive Associate, YUFA, ext. 33700.
